Jay and I left the previous night right after our wedding ceremony was finished, and all the guests had their chance to congratulate us on the marriage. I knew that Jay had been planning a very special honeymoon for us, but when I found out it was to Champs Les Sims, I about fainted. Champs Les Sims, was the place I had always wanted to spend my honeymoon, something about it is just so intriguing and romantic.
We arrived early the next morning at the hotel we were to be staying at. Luckily it wasn't overflowing with tourists and other honeymooners, we had picked the perfect time to get married and travel to Champs Les Sims. Once we brought our luggage up to the room we would be staying in for the next three days, and got ourselves situated, we wasted no time in doing newlywed couple things.
Including making love to each other for the first time. The subject had come up a few times while we were dating, and engaged, but the truth was we both had gone our whole lives waiting for 'The One' and to get married before giving up that part of ourselves. The first day in Champs Les Sims, was already magical, and I definitely couldn't wait to go and visit other places with Jay at my side.
Later in the morning after getting showers and dressed in fresh clothing, we took a ride to the art gallery. I knew that Jay was incredibly gifted in the art department so I thought he would be so excited to see the cultural differences between Champs Les Sims, and Twinbrook. However once we got there we did take a look around at all the paintings and sculptures, but I fell in love with this beautiful antique table that was on display at the gallery. Jay was a little less than impressed with the beauty of the antique than I was, but he did enjoy looking around at the paintings. We ended up spending about three hours wandering around inside the art gallery, and before long our stomachs began to rumble.
"Ready to go eat, sweetie?" Jay asked looking over at me, watching as I was still admiring the antique table.
"Uhm, yeah. Are we going back to the hotel?"
"Nope, but you'll see when we get there." Jay smiled at me, before taking my hand and leading me out of the art gallery.
The drive from the art gallery all the way to the cozy little cafe that Jay had decided to bring me to took about thirty minutes. The scenery here was breathtaking, unlike anything I've ever seen in my life. Twinbrook was beautiful in it's own way, but wow, Champs Les Sims was absolutely stunning, I wonder if all of France is like this? But that's beside the point. Our late lunch or early dinner, which ever term is preferred, was amazing. I have never eaten frog legs before in my life, and let me say this, they really do taste just like chicken. Jay has had them before, so he was already acquainted with their chicken-like taste.
The rest of the day passed by slowly after eating at the little cafe in town, and before long we decided it would be best to head back to the hotel and lounge around there until bedtime. After all it wasn't very often that I got more than two days off from work, and I haven't taken a vacation since I started at the hospital, over five years ago now. Already there had been a few times during the day when I had wanted to call to check in on things at the hospital, but that was just my inner workaholic coming out in me. However, I fought off the urge to call and check on things, and although it's been hard to resist making that call, it's been a little empowering.
Before long it became dark outside and it was bedtime. Jay and I took showers and changed into our comfortable pajamas before hopping into bed and drifting off to sleep. Tomorrow should be a very interesting day, since we had a fun trip to the local winery planned.
-----------
The next day Jay and I were up fairly early, about eight o'clock, and we had made it to the winery at around nine o'clock. Neither of us wasted any time in checking things out together, instead we went our separate ways once inside the building.
After about an hour of browsing the racks I decided to go check to see if Jay found anything that he wanted to taste. I was happy to see that he had found something to try, and was pouring a round of drinks for us. A smile appeared on my face as I came up to him.
"Ooh, what's that?" My eyes twinkled with curiosity as my voice brought Jay out of his own little world and back into the one we were living in.
"This, my dear, is a lovely apple based wine. It should be nice and sweet. I hope that you like it." Jay replied sweetly as his eyes landed on me, and a smile crept onto his features. "Care to join me for a drink now?" He asked as he finished pouring the liquid into the glasses.
"Sure, I'd love to." Just as quickly as I had answered him, we were both walking towards the back area, where tourists and locals alike come to make their wine. There were tables and chairs set up in the area though, so we were allowed to sit back there and enjoy our newly found drink.
When we made it to the back of the winery, where the tables and chairs were located Jay and I sat down and each took a glass of the apple wine. After a few drinks of the sweet and tasty liquid, and about thirty minutes of working on the same glass, I began to get really fidgety. The effects were starting to kick in, yep, I'm definitely a light weight when it comes to drinking. Jay, though was a champ, and downed his drink fairly quickly. The fidgetiness that I was feeling from the drink made it pretty much impossible to sit still for very long at all, and soon I found myself up walking around with drink in hand. Jay found the whole thing really funny, but was right there if I needed any help. Thankfully he got me to sit down after about an hour and a half of me walking around the building being silly.
A couple hours after Jay had gotten me to sit down, I began to feel better and before long I was back to walking around the building, this time a little more sober than before. Jay didn't have to stay close to keep an eye on me and make sure I didn't hurt myself or harass anyone in the winery with a million questions about life and any other random topic that popped into my mind. Before we left the winery, we ended up buying about eight bottles of wine, and we bought a rack to place the bottles inside, for proper aging purposes.
After purchasing our bottles of wine and the rack to place them inside of, Jay and I left the winery and headed back to the hotel. We planned to go sight seeing later on, but we both really needed to get some lunch and I needed to take a small nap before heading out again.
It had only been a few minutes since waking up from my nap, and Jay had been reading quietly in the kitchen area while I got some rest. My phone began to vibrate and ring inside of my pocket as I was walking through the living area of the hotel to go find Jay. Figuring it was just Molly or Nick calling to see how things were going. I pulled out my phone and looked at it, as my eyes adjusted to the word, 'Work' displayed in bold letters on the screen, I became concerned.
"Hello?... What?! Yes.. yes, I'll get the first flight I can. Thanks for calling. I'll be there in a few hours." My voice rang out in the empty living area of the hotel. My heart sank knowing that I would have to deliver the bad news to Jay and that we would have to cut our honeymoon short. This is not what I was prepared for. Sure I knew that there was the possibility of me having to return home early if there was an emergency, but I really had hoped there wouldn't be. I assumed that Nick was already at the hospital, he's a Trauma Surgeon, so for now the people who were being transported from Sunset Valley to Twinbrrok would be in good hands until I arrived. I'm not exactly sure of what type of accident it was, but there are several people injured. My boss said that I would most likely spend all day and half the night doing surgeries, from how it looks at the moment. Once I quickly hung up the phone, I ran to go find Jay. He could stay if he wanted, and I made sure to let him know that, but he was having no part of it. So after making sure he really wanted to come home with me, we both gathered our things and quickly made our way to the airport.
---------------
Thankfully we got lucky in finding a flight back to Twinbrook on such short notice, and a few hours later we were back. I insisted that Jay go on home and I would take a taxi to the hospital, but again he had no part of it and wanted to make sure I got there safely, so he drove me, despite it being very late at night by now. Once we made it to the hospital, I gave him a quick kiss on the lips, before jumping out of the car and running inside the hospital. Jay then returned home, to get some rest since that was the only logical thing for him to do, it would be hours before I would be able to come home and he knew that.
Even though we had to leave our honeymoon early, both of us were very happy with our experience in Champs Les Sims, and maybe one day when things were a bit calmer we could go back for a full trip. We were really just happy to be able to spend the time that we could together in our own little world, before we had to return to our daily lives again.
