Chapter Eight

Author Note: This is fairly short chapter, there's not much dialogue, but it's one of my favorite chapters so far, just because it's adorable. I really hope you guys enjoy it! :)

In the weeks following Blaine's birth, I found that  motherhood was much harder than I expected it to be, but somehow I transitioned easily into it. It also helped that Jay continued to help out with the housework, we split the chores evenly and switched up who would do which chore each week. Even child care was split between the two of us, if I got up at two o'clock in the morning with Blaine, then the next night Jay would get up. Switching from just being a newlywed couple into being first time parents was pretty simple for us, especially Jay who has always been very family-oriented.

Oh and I can't forget one of my most favorite times of the day... Afternoon nap time. I love being a mother as much as Jay loves being a father, but the truth is, parenting is a lot of hard, tiring work. Thankfully our little boy is a very good sleeper and let us catch up a little on our rest before starting the routine of changing diapers, bottle feedings, burping, cuddling, playing, bathing, etc. all over again before bedtime.

Just like being a parent is always full of surprises, being a wife is full of them too. There was a day, a few months ago that I was feeling really down and just having a really bad day. What does my husband do? He buys me the most beautiful, most perfect bouquet of purple flowers a woman could ever dream of. Their scent was so light and sweet, those flowers are definitely going to end up in a vase on the dinner table as my new center piece.

One would think though that after having a child and only being married for a very short amount of time, not to mention how short the engagement was, that we wouldn't have made it this far. Especially when you add in how different we are as people, he's a homebody, while I'm a workaholic; he's a painter, while I'm a well-known surgeon. Some say our relationship and marriage makes no sense, but we believe it's our differences that have brought us together, after all the saying is 'Opposites attract'. Seriously though, we didn't need any outside help in keeping the spark alive between the two of us after becoming parents.

--------------------------

Jays' painting career has really taken off for him. He's getting better every time he picks up his paints and brushes. People around town have stopped and asked him about his work, since he has been selling his art to a couple different galleries around the area. Apparently he has a lot of fans, which I can believe because he is really a very talented artist. It makes me so happy to see him achieving his dream of becoming a well-known painter. I could sit and watch him paint with the focus and passion that he pours into his artwork all day long, but sadly, I can't since work has started back now.

Before long though it was Blaine's first birthday, and Jay did all the party planning as well as sending out the invitations while I was at work. It seemed so surreal to me that we were parents of a one year old, and it was insane to think that Jay and I had been married for nearly two years now.

At Blaine's birthday party, I got the honor of bringing him to his birthday cake, which was exciting for me and Jay both, even if Blaine couldn't understand what was going on or even care about the party. It was just a way for us to celebrate our baby turning a year old and becoming a precious toddler. Unfortunately there were a few rude guests, one who rummaged through our fridge in the middle of the party just before cake was going to be served. The other two rude guests got into a fight pretty much as soon as they came in through the front door, it wasn't pretty, but the fight was broken up really quick. Needless to say those people are no longer welcome in our home. But none of that put a damper on the mood of the party. There were a few of my co-workers that attended, and there were some friends of Jay's that attended as well. All in all, Blaine's First Birthday Party was a huge success, and everyone had a blast.

------------- Two Years Later

"Oh no! It's... It's.. It's the CLAW!!!"

"Ahhh, mama, the caw!!!"

"It's gonna get you Blaine!"

"Nooo!" Blaine giggled, as my hand 'The Claw' came down on his belly, tickling him gently all over. It seemed like just yesterday my son was a tiny little newborn, so new to the world and helpless. Now he's an energetic three year old, walking around and talking up a storm. He's so smart, and funny, he is just the best child a parent could ever dream of having.

There aren't enough words in the world to describe the incredible love, and happiness that Blaine fills my heart with. He is the best thing besides his father that has happened to me, he has also made me into a better person, and for that I'm so thankful.
